Chateau Larose-Trintaudon 2004

Chateau Larose-Trintaudon 2004. It is wine from Haut-Medoc and bottled with a beautiful red label. I have long wanted to try this. I opened the bottle and left it for a while. following suggestions. Indwws, the aroma is more pronounced now. It is a beautiful ruby colored wine with fruity aroma. Casis (and blueberry) , maybe? The body is more than medium, rather close to full. I can't exactly describe this aroma, but i know this.... On the palate, it doesn't have this blooming taste, but it is fruity. This raisin-like taste is similar to Gouden Carolus Classic (It's beer.), only that this one is subtler. I detected tar-like flavor about 15 minutes ago, but I'm not sure now. Tannin is pleasant. It is right for the price, I should say.

P.S. Don't believe what I say about wine. Just drink it. I have a little confidence about beer tasting, though. As for (Scotch) whisky, I'm learning it right now. I have a good teacher who is/was acquainted with Michael Jackson (NOT A SINGER!!!) and Milroys and more....

P.P.S. Speaking of Michael Jackson, there are too many of them! I know of three of them and personally know one of them!

Over a Glass of Whisky (Broken Tagalog)

Ngayong, uniinom ako ng Bowmore (17 years old) with munster cheese sa bed ko. Ito ay ritual para sa magandang tulog.

Nag-usap kaming BBB kung ano ang gagawin namin para sa Pasko. Sinabi ni T. na magdadalo siya ng Maker's mark. Ang galing, 'di ba?

Rochefort 10

Roshefort 10 is a Belgian Trappistes beer. The alcoholic content is 11 to 12%, which is very high for beer. We sometimes call such beer whose alcoholic content is more than 10% Belgian wine. If there is one word to describe this beer, it's complexity. It is like peach, raisin, oatmeal stout and more as much as your imagination tells. It has surprisingly long finish. Sweet but bitter at the same time. In a glass, it has dark ruby color. Richness in taste and body is far beyond what one would expect from beer.

I'm drinking it now. I've drunk this a few times before, but I just wanted to recall the taste with a little more educated palate of mine. I'll probably get some for you for Christmas. It's a wonderful beer from a Catholic monastery. (By the way, Trappiste monks make good beer.) Pax vobiscum!

P.S. I'm not qualified to criticize beer because I do not know how they are made in details. More I drink beer, more I realized I needed to know how to brew them.

P.P.S. I want to get hold of Samiclaus (spelling?) for Christmas. Isn't the beer named Santa Claus perfect for the day?

La Trappe (Tripel)

I've been away from beer for a while; I've been exploring wine and (Scotch whisky again) for a month or so since it is getting colder and colder in Kyoto and I've tried almost all the Belgian beer available near my place (craziness!). I had a lot of drinks last night with J. and sadly I had a (mild) hangover today. It is because I didn't eat gyoza after drinking. Gyoza always saves me from a hangover.

Right now, I'm drinking La Trappe (Tripel) for the first time. It is a Trappist beer brewed in Netherlands. The only Trappist beer brewed outside of Belgium actually. I chose this one because I didn't want to drink dark-colored heavy beer today. Once or twice, I said some beers (Lindeman's beer, for example) had metallic off-flavor, but it may have been because of the glass. I mean, I noticed that the hot water in my place has metallic smell, so if I wash my "tasting glass" with hot water, there is always this lingering smell of metal. Luckily, I noticed it today, so I washed the glass with cold water afterwards today so that I can really taste the beer.

La Trappe Tripel 500ml came in a porcelain container with a cork cap. The bottle is the same as the one of St. Sebastiaan, which I heard is not produced any longer.... The beer is like this:

Color: honey-colored that makes us expect it to be sweet.
Aroma and bouquet: Ester (pear?) I think it is like Westmall (double). It doesn't have banana like aroma, though.
Palate: First sweet, then medium (to strong) bitterness, very rich. Also, moderately spicy especially at a low temperature.

It is a beer one should try at least once. Although Trappist beers are sometimes similar to each other, This one has its own character. How can I put it? Make Gouden Carolus Brown lighter and subtract raisin flavor. This beer is sweet as I said, but the sweetness is followed by bitterness. That's why I can keep drinking it. It is a good well-balanced drink.

ONE MORE THING: I had Petit Munster (Washed Cheese) last night. It was nice. I hope some day Japanese cheese producers will also make this kind of smelly cheese.... (I'm a fan of blue cheese FYI.)
